PC shut down spontaniously, wont turn back on

Specs: Windows XP
i was on my computer playing WoW(yeah.....i know) and then my computer just shut off, like all power just cut off. no bootdown no warning no nothing. afterwards there was a small burnt smell and i noticed my cooling vents were a little dusty so i cleaned them out thinking it was the problem but my computer still wont turn on. all of the other hardware(printer, moniter, speakers, etc.) are working. suggestions? ty

My first step would be to check out the Power Supply. Try swapping in a KNOWN GOOD, Compatibe PSU, or test the original (have Tested).

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

The Powersupply is always the first suspect but it isn't the only possible cause of your problem. Obviously there is something else wrong. Last time I had a system let the factory pre-installed smoke out, the PSU, Motherboard & CPU were all fried, along with a PCI network card.
Ram & drives were the only bits salvaged.

The only way to test these components is by swapping them out with known good parts so unless you have access to compatible spares then you may either take it to a tech and see if they will test at no/small cost, or look to buy/build a new system
