CPU/Ram: P4 3.4 550 socket 775/512
Comment:

Im having a problem with a Advent T11 (p4 3.4, 512MB Ram, 6600 PCIE)having just replaced the noisy stock fan for a quieter Thermaltake Silent 775. Now I thought I was doing a favour for a friend (its not my PC!)oops....

I know for a fact (could be wrong) that the PC is booting up as Im getting h/disk activity cdrom works and the clincher for me was that I can hear the windows startup on the speakers (and shutdown)so im pretty sure that the CPU is OK (least i hope) and hopefuly MOBO too (which is a rather crappy one tbh - MS 7046)

The PC seems to beep once then pause and then 2-3 small beeps after that (not sure if its 2 or 3.) My m8 (not for long lol) said he thinks thats what it normally did.

So i think that just leaves me with the graphics card but I have no other PCIE graphics card or PC. Is there anything else I can try? I even tried looking for an old PCI graphics card with no luck just to test.

Just want to confirm before I have to start ordering a new card.....

Any ideas would be a great help.

Go back inside the PC and make sure the video card is seated and any power cable it may need is plugged into it.

Ive checked its seated and checked the slot and everything lines up fine and slot looks clean of dust. I also tried it outside of a case with just CPU, 1 stick memory and the GPU.

It also has no molex or 3 pin floppy connector to connect

still no luck, im now wondering really if the graphics card is slotted in correctly. There is a white catch which seems to be working correctly and is holding the card in place, and the metal bracket end again seems to be inserted correctly.

I may try removing the white bracket on the GPU slot and removing the metal bracket on the graphics card and then try to slot it in to see if it goes in any further.

There seems to be 2 indents on the graphics card (hard to explain its either end of the gold contacts) and it does looks that these could go down a bit further.

Im really out of ideas though

Do a search on the internet for the "beep code" list associated with the bios being used. Thend listen closely to the beeps at power up to see if the bios "thinks" the system is starting correctly.

im pretty sure now its the graphics card. It a phoenix BIOS and it gives the same beep code with the graphics card both in and out (1 long then 2 i think it is)

If the fan starts up on the graphics card does that def. mean its plugged in correctly in the PCIE slot?

Im going to take it to a shop to test the graphics card and to try a different card in my PC - I dont want to spend money if Im still not 100% sure that its the MOBO or graphics card.

This just gets weirder and weirder.

Taken it to PC shop and they did say it was the grpahics card, they fitted a crappy ATI X300 card and said it works fine. Not wanting to have an X300 to replace the 6600 I ordered a replacement 6600 and guess what nothing on screen. I no longer get the BIOS beeps but still nothing on screen.

The PC shop said it was either a new faulty GPU (which I know it isnt tested on another PC) or either the graphics card isnt compatable. WTF does that mean its a PCIE 16X slot and its a PCIE card dont see how it could be incompatible.

Forgot to add that I always tried a Antec Truepower 550W power supply just to eliminate that too.
