HELP!! I recentley aquired 2 older PC's from an office upgrade, so I decided to get them working to give to charity. As they say , "No good deed goes unpunished" !! Bothe Pc's are the same, except for hard drives, and both have the same issue. When they get to the boot screen, they just restart, over and over. So, I tried changing to a new OS, same thing. Tried changing HD, same thing. Tried flashing BIOS, same thing. The only error that I have seen on post screen is "BSP CPU Err: Microcode", but unable to find any solid info about this error message. As I am unable to give in or concede defeat, I would really appreciate some HELP...PLEASE!!

What do you mean by "Changing to a new OS?" Did you format and reinstall?

Bad CPU would be my guess...

Google gives lots of hits on that message:

any beeps? if it were a bad cpu u wouldnt see anythign on screen. what happens with no hd, does it show the measage no os installed? make sure the hard drive is the firt boot device. Make sure the jumpers on the drives are set right. If there were a ram problem it would also beep and not show anythign on screen.

Ensure the BIOS is rep0rting the CPU correctly, maybe just reset to default values !

Thanx for the ideas folks, but unfortunately, I have tried all of the fixes that you have suggested. The PC's initially had Office 2000 installed, but when they failed to boot, I decided to install Windows XP to circumvent any potential OS issues. Since I was unsure of the history behind these systems, I figured this would be the easiest way to solve any issues. Unfortunatley this failed. So I proceeded to try changing to a different HDD, same result. As stated in original post, the PC's get to the boot screen then reboot, over and over. The thing that puzzles me is that the systems stay running thru the formatting and preinstallation process, but after the initial system files are loaded and the system reboots to begin OS installation, as soon as the windows boot screen apears, so does the same problem! Post,Boot Screen and Reboot... Over and Over. One other bit of info, I have also tried other OS's, including Windows 95 and 98, as well as attempting to do a clean boot from floppy, same result. As soon as OS begins to load, reboot! UGHH!!
Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Go into cmos/bios setup and disable the 'detection of cpu serial number' (or words to that affect). That might remove the microcode message but may not be related to the rebooting problem.

Could this be a smp or dual processor machine? If so then either one isn't up fully or the OS or bios is not supporting it.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

I have the same problem on a HP Pavilion 555 I got off a friend. I can enter the bios and it shows the processor and mem hdd and cd drives. There all set-up like they should be. I can put in win XP cd and boot, format and install windows. After windows installs and you try to boot the pc just keeps resetting over and over. After the first reboot it comes up and gives me the windows didn’t start right safe mode options but will not boot into safe mode as well. I have tried a different HDD, mem, PSU, well everything but the processor and the MB. One thing I have found is that when it reboots it throws a blue screen for a brief sec before restarting but its way to fast to read or get any info from. Any help on this would be great.
