PC no HD and nothing displays on monitor

Specs: Vista Home premium
I have been given an Acer Aspire T671 that i was hoping to get working and maybe sell.
The only thing it does not have is a HD,which i have bought and have on standby but when i connect it to a monitor there is nothing displayed.

The machine powers up and lights up,the fan works and so does the fan on the processor, all connections are in place,it has a gig of ram and Integrated ATI Radeon graphics.
So i would appreciate any ideas as to what to check or do next

Does it give any BIOS beep when you try to start it up?

Remove all the ram and then try to boot up. If the CPU is ok you should at least get a bios beep code for ram error. That will at least tell you if the CPU is working.

If it passes that test re-insert 1 stick of ram and try again. Any beeps? Any display?

If you continue to get no display after working out whether or not the CPU is working it may be a dead graphics chip on the motherboard.

If there are no beeps when you bootup, the problem is either the CPU, motherboard or power supply. Fans & lights coming on doesn't necessarily mean the power supply is good, it only means it's supplying enough power to spin some fans & light some LEDs. You're going to have to do some troubleshooting.
