Hey guys. I've been having issues for over the last month where my PC will be running for a day or 2 and all of a sudden the mouse just stops and everything completely locks. I get no error message and windows doesn't know it crashed when I reset the system.
I have since changed the power supply, mobo, CPU, and RAM, and obviously reformatted (numerous times) and I'm STILL having the same problem. I just switched my video card and I'm waiting to see if that makes a difference.
Because I get no error message I've been assuming this whole time that it's hardware, but I'm running out of things to switch. Could a faulty HD cause this problem (I have 3 HDs), or is it possible that it is software related?
I'm really going NUTS here and any input AT ALL would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much.

Maybe you have a bad Capacitors on the motherboard
Ps:did you try another Hard drive ?
also do you have a very Good Cooling on that CPU!
Finally:If you have Spyware or a nasty virus /trojan or a Corrupted registry File / Corrupted driver your Pc will Froze
on the other hand is your Pc Froze also in the Safe Mode or not ?
Good luck m8.

Thanks a lot. The cooling isn't an issue - I have multiple case fans and a copper based heatsink w/ a nice fan on my CPU. It's not spyware/virus (I'm very careful and I've reformatted multiple times since the problem started) and I've tried 2 Mobos, so it's not a mobo problem.
I have 3 hard drives in my PC - should I only be concerned about the 1 running XP, or do you think the two other HDs that I use for storage could be a problem?

M8:What type of hard drive do you have ?
I think all the manufacturer out there has a diagnostic utilities which allow you to Test the Hard drive
Ps:just test all of them
maybe One of them has a Bad Sector and make your PC Froze
Bon Courage ...

I have XP running on a Samsung 80 GB HD and I have two western digital drives as backups. I'm going to look for the utilities now. I really am running out of things to test/swap, so I hope it is one of the hard drives. Thanks a lot.

Just curious :
is your Computer Froze also in the Safe Mode ?
also have you tried disabling the Startup programs in Case Some of them not working Fine or Corrupted !!!
On the other hand have you ever Cleaned your registry & what type of Antivirus /Firewall are you running In there Because Sometimes The Firewall /antivirus will produce Some kind of Lockup
Finally: are you Sure you have a very Good
PSU ?
M8:it doesn,t hurt if you Can download a Trial Version of "Ewido Security Suite" To make Sure that there is no Spyware or whatever into your System
Bon Courage..

What does the Eventviewer (eventvwr) say? Have you tried changing mice? Is it a USB or PS/2 mouse. I've had problems with USB mice on a few PCs.

I use Norton Utilities/Antivirus and Sygate Personal Firewall. I haven't tried going into safe mode. The problem is that PC is usually stable for 1-2 days before it freezes, it doesn't happen right away and I don't have to be doing anything for it to freeze-it usually freezes when the PC is not in use.
The power supply is a brand new Antec 550W PS so I've been assuming it's fine - is there a way I can test it?
I'm going to move onto disabling software that starts up next - all this time I've been assuming hardware b/c I get no errors and the eventviewer never has any messages about problems.
My mouse is USB into a PS/2 converter, and then it goes to a KVM. I tried it w/o the KVM (USB to PS/2 only) and it still froze w/o KVM. Should I try a new mouse that is straight PS/2? Could it be something so simple?

Not all issues have complex roots. The complexity is often linked to identifying the "unknown" element. Try a different HD and/or run a scandisk on the existing drive. If you have bad sectors and the paging system tries writing to one of those sectors you'll have a problem.

I'm running scandisk right now. Assuming it checks out ok, I'm going to run mobo,cpu,1 hd, video card and leave it on to see if it freezes again.
Do you guys think I'm right in basically ruling out software as a cause of the problem (my reasoning is that I've reformatted, get no error messages, and PC freezes when idling)?

M8:
1) Try using other antivirus for a While (AVG Freeware )
2) Borrow another Video Card from a Friend & Tested If you did make sure you have the right driver for it
3) Test your Cmos Battery
4)Run your Computer with a One Stick of Ram
5)Disable your Screensaver
6)I Was Wondering If you have ever Installed Intel application Accelerator IF you do Uninstalled
7)Is you NIC Card Working fine, have you updated lately to a Buggy driver
Bon Courage..
