This problem has frustrated me for days,

I try to run any media player, and when said media begins and start up another program i hear a single click or a beep from my pc speaker then slowly everything freezes. i reboot could freeze when i login or after my PC doesn't run for more than 5 to 10 minutes if music is on or i try to watch a movie file.

it happens when i try to run videos or music in background

also happens when i try to run a simple game not too demanding.

One possibility may be your memory is faulty, and the other is overheating due to dust, etc.

Open the side of the case and put a window/small fan blowing in. See if you stop freezing, or it gets less. If it does, then
clean out your box, especially make sure all fans are working and blow the dust out from the CPU heatsink fan with a can of compressed air. blow out the power supply also, that gets real grungy inside after a few years. See if that helps.

If no joy, Go HERE and download the Vs1.7, pre-compiled ISO (the first download link in the list) of Memtest 86+. Save this to your hard drive. After it is downloaded, open up a burning utility such as Nero, Roxio, or any other that will burn ISO files. There are some free that folks use on this forum also. Insert a blank CD in your burner, and the utility will use that ISO file to create a fully bootable program disk of Memtest 86+. When it is done burning, set your BIOS to First Boot Device = CD, reboot, and Memtest will boot and start testing your memory. Let it run for at least two hours on each stick of RAM separately. Even one error message means that stick is bad.
