I've had this problem for a while now. While using my pc, it would just suddenly turn off like as if somebody pulled the plug. It doesn't happen that often but it does happen at least once a day. One thing I noticed too when it turns off is that I can't turn it back on, the power LED blinks every now and then, and I have to unplug the cpu from the outlet, wait for a while then plug it back in before I can turn it back on.
Often times that it does this is also when I connect something to the usb (sd card via usb adapter, cellphone, etc). No error message it just suddenly turns off.
I am thinking that it might be my power supply (I am not sure how much watts it has since the sticker doesnt say any).
But also the same thing happens when my pc performs DISK CHECK (it performs disk check because the pc suddenly shut down). It will go through the 1st and 2nd checks but on the 3rd one it will suddenly turn off. (this happened on the three times that I tried the DISK CHECK)
my two suspects are the power supply and my memory. what do you guys think?
thanks

Probably, but it might also be an overheating CPU.

"Definately the power supply." yea likely but, isn't over heating a possibility? massive amount of dirt, inoperative fan, etc
larry

thanks guys for the input
yesterday, ive opened my case and ran the pc and saw that all fans are working fine or at least i can feel it moving some air
shouldnt bios show if the cpu is overheating?
ive also cleaned my computer not too long ago
so most possible culprits are psu and overheating?
when i get home, ill also try to perform a ram test just to get the memory out of the way

"shouldnt bios show if the cpu is overheating?"
Did you look?
"when i get home, ill also try to perform a ram test"
Almost certainly not a memory problem, but it won't hurt to test it.

i used pc wizard and Speedfan to check the temperature
hottest temperature is w/ the harddrive w/c is 34C
processor temperature shows 27C - 32C
do i need to order that new power supply now?
xD

The fact that he has to uplug it and let it sit for a few minutes, normally means the circuit breaker in the power supply has tripped and needs to cool down.
It could be one of the devices in the box intermittently shorting out, but I suspect you need a higher wattage or better power supply than the one you have.

i use a 420w power supply, but i think its a generic one
im not running any powerhog cpu or graphics card
so a better 430w - 500w should be good enough right?
thanks guys
