Hey all, I am having a really frustrating problem with my PC freezing up and shutting down on me all the time. This is the first computer I myself and it was working ok with only a few freezes untill recently. I have had the PC now for about 6 months and the problems with freezing and shutting off on its own have increased in the last couple of months to the point where it has a hard time rebooting after it shuts down. I have tried reformating several times and cleaned out the dust from the case but this does not seem to fix the problem. Could it be a problem with my CPU or Power supply? If so how can you tell? The specs on my computer are as follows: 2100+ Athalon CPU Gigabyte ga-7vaxp mainboard 512 mb DDR Ram ATX-300 Watt power supply Alien-Ware Midtower with 5 fans installed Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know of any cheap diagnostic software to detect hardware problems?? Thanks!

Your Power supply is marginal. You don't need that many case fans. Just Two will do. One sucking and one blowing. Make sure your processor's fan is working properly, you need that and if your motherboard came with a fan on it's chipset make sure it is working. You need that one too, only if it came with the motherboard. Make sure your heat sink if properly seated on the processor. I'm pretty sure it is though. Otherwise it would have burned up by now. Think about upgrading your power supply. Good luck.

Do you think my computer could be overheating?? Or would it just be a problem with the power supply?

Yes the computer is relatively new. I built it myself and have had it for about 6 months now but it keeps having problems freezing and turning itself off so you can see my frustration.
Summary: My PC will only POST sporadically. When it does POST, it typically enters the BOIS setup. When I exit the BIOS setup, the PC never turns off. When the system doesn't POST, the fans run, the hard drive...
Summary: I've constructed PC, which worked well except the fact that it was necessary sometimes up to 10 times to press the power button to start. After that there was no problem to work days along. Since it's...
