PC Fails to Boot-up
Name: KK Hui Date: November 7, 2003 at 20:56:36 Pacific OS: Win XP CPU/Ram: P4 1.7GHz
Comment:
Just recently my PC, a P4 1.7GHz running on Win XP, fails to boot up from time to time after being switched on. I try switching it on and off a few times then I can get it starting up normally. No new software or hardware was added/removed perior to this fault occurrance.
Would appreciate your help as to what the possible cause(s) may be and the resolution please. Thanks!

You ight want to try a different power supply and see if that solves your problem. :)

Thanks for your quick replies.
The psu is okay and steady. When the fault occurred, the floppy unit lamp just stays continuously after power is switched on. The PC just stucks and won't boot up. The mon diplay have a black background with the manufacture's logo on it. At this point I can't enter the system using F10 key or any other keys for that matter.

I had the same problem with the floppy drive light staying lit and nothing else happening. In my case, a mounting screw on the floppy drive was shorting the system. After I moved the screw to a different mounting hole, all was well. Strange but true...
Also, try removing the power cable and IDE cable from the floppy. The drive could be bad or the cables could be reversed.
