my computer is 3 years old with an intel 4 17ghz, and an old intel motherboard. now, i replaced with AMD xp 2800+, and amd motherboard that support amd xp. when i put everything on, the computer runs like normally but it doesnt POST. there is no beep and everything is running like it suppose to. i tried to clear cmos to get to the bio but my computer still doesnt POST. i thought it suppose to POST when i clear cmos... is there anything i can do? i wasthinking about taking it to the store to fix this but i dont know what kind of stores that can fix your computer. btw, how much would it cost me just to get this done?

depends where you live as to how much. Try the following:
1) check you've got both pwoer connectors on the motherboard (20pin one and 12v 4 pin one if required)
2) check the clear cmos jumper isnt set to clear as this sometimes is the case with new boards.
3) check the memory configuration. Move around what slots its in (normally the first socket 0) is OK
4)reseat you graphics card. Remove any other expansion cards to eliminate them from the problem too.

Still stuck, repairs are normally overprices depending on where you live.

Maybe you should take it to the store and get it fixed.

If you replaced the mobo are you sure that you have it set in correctly and you don't have the screws tightened too much? Are your cards seated right? Try to start with just the minimum, video card, cpu/heatsink, one stick of memory. Disconnect all your drives and pull any other pci cards (other then video) If it starts up and posts then add one thing at a time until it doesn't post. What wattage is your power supply?

what is wattage? there are some extra plugs that have no room for them on the motherboard. the power buttom cables that has green, red, yellow black things in 1 rolls but the thing on the motherboard has 2 rolls, so i only can turn it on but no turn off when i plug it in.....

i do not want to pay people more than 40 dollars on this because my computer is not even broken. all i need is someone to help me put all the things together and do the cmos thing for me...

If you take the side off your computer you will see your power supply. It should tell you on there what the watts are. 400,350,250
Did you try starting with the minimum like I and another post suggested?

Dear Pochacco, I think it would be best if you have a friend who is more pc literate than yourself have a look at your pc.

It is probably something simple.

Good luck - Keep us posted.

If I pulled up the correct power supply, you have a Hewlett Packard system. The ps is a 200 watt. Now you asked if $70-$90 was too much ,well, it depends on how much time it would take them to fix it and what they would have to do. They may have to pull out what you put in and start from scratch. I would advise you to take it there and have them take care of it and tell you what was wrong.
