hey Y'all

Well, my BIOS got screwed when i tried flashing it and i had got a wrong BIOS Software.I got it flashed again by my vendor. Being a VINTAGE PC, it took him some time to get the correct BIOS and flash it.

But since the time he got it flashed for me, my PC DIES on random (and also when i insert my Bluetooth Dongle -- it dies twice in 3 tries)

My vendor told me that my SMPS was scrweed (he showed me a brown burnt thingy at the connectors of my AT power supply)

I got myself a ATX power supply (has got ATX support) and STILL the problem still persists. The random deaths have reduced a BIT but the bluetooth dongle deaths are still da same (2 out of 3 tries) (i.e. I stick in the USB dongle, PC detects it, starts the bluetooth software by itself and then it dies)

Can anyone help me out

I cant find out my mobo model (its a PcPartner mobo)

HELP HELP HELP

If u need, i can give out a link of the pic of of my mobo

you best just get a new board. eliminate the problems.
flashing a board goes awry 99% of the time.

What do you mean by dies?

Computer Freezes?
Shuts off?
Reboots?
Screen goes Blank?
Any error messages?

First thing is to determine the model motherboard and/or computer make and model if unmodified.

Download and install all the newest drivers for mobo, video and sound.

Check for overheating CPU?

Also, check for bad memory?

'flashing a board goes awry 99% of the time'

This is a false statement.IMO

I have flashed my bios many times with NO problems.

Flashing with the wrong bios file will go awry 99% of the time.

PC Dies = EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN

Monitor light turns orange
CD WRITER light just STAYS ON (not BLINK... just STAYS ON)
CDROM light does not go on AT ALL

HDD LED just glows continously (no HDD activity though.... tried touching the HDD for any vibrations)

Keyboard does not respond

I did a SCANDISK for my PC
It took around 20-odd mins (Celeron 400 CPU), I used my BT Dongle, PC din't DIE.

CPU does not overheat
RAM is alright.
Got a new SMPS (300 WATT)

Have you tried plugging the dongle into a powered USB hub rather than directly the PC?

Well, I'm not aware of POWERED USB HUBS.
Isn't there any other option ?? What could be your conclusion if you were in my place ??? (considering all my posts above) ??

If the power connector from the power supply was charred it probably damaged the connector on the motherboard. I would suggest that it's not worth keeping.

I really don't see what a BIOS flash, bad or good has to do with burned hardware. What prompted the BIOS flash in the first place?
u - BIOS flashing is very safe to do if you take the proper precautions. First you need the correct flash file and bin file and you don't perform the flash during storms or brownouts, any time power could be interrupted. Flashing the BIOS isn't something that should be done casually but the proceedure usually goes fine.
