Hi

recently My PC monitor has been blinking off between 10 and 12 in the monring and at night.

it turns it self off and crashes the PC. It requires a complete turn off to get it back up.

I dont know whats causing it I think it may be my GF2 MX200 but i am not sure.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

Check Power Management in Control Panel..See if it's going standby...Under Power Scheme it should say 'Always On' and under Moniter 'Never'.

No thats not the problem standby's and hibernates are off.

The PC has been wiped and reinstalled and it still does it.

The monitor just turns itself off and wont come back up.

could it be a prblem with graphics card?

Open up the case - and check for dirt.
You could have an overheating issue which can cause your system to power down. It runs normally until it gets too hot - which can take hours (at that point you're asleep) because the problem is just now beginning to get bad.

Unplug everything . . .
Take the PC outside - remove the cover.
Then get an old, small paintbrush, and gently brush off all of the built up crud. Believe me, you DON'T want to do this in the house, if this is the first cleaning. Clean the fan on the CPU off very gently. Also, if it is an older system, don't be surprised if the CPU doesn't even have a fan, or if the fan has gotten so gunked up that it actually died. On older systems like that, simply replacing the cpu fan would be in order.

Also, if you're handy with a screwdriver, remove the power supply - without having to unplug it, if you have space in your case. Remove the tin cover, and clean all of the crud out of there too.

If the PS can't be moved without completely unplugging it, then don't do it. Simply try to just grab as muhc dirt as you can reach with the brush - and blow through the power supply vents, from the rear to the front. Word of warning though - hold your breath after a good blow. The crud that build up on fans and in cases can and will make you gag !!!

Cleaning maintenance really should be done at the very very last, once per year.

Hey Intel, AMD rulez!
