Woke up to find my PC completely dead...nothing - no life at all. I assumed power supply so a mate brought round a spare one .... plugged in all in - still nothing (we did not connect floopy as leads were to short - would that make a difference). As soon as you plug in a power supply (connected up to mother board etc or not) would you expect to see live in power supply unit ie fan would immediately work or could my mates be broken aswell?

If the the other power supply has not blown (conincidence !!) what else could it be ?? (I have tested plugs, power supply cables & all OK)

Cheers in advance

Hi
check your atx mobo power header is connected! often this is overlooked if youve swapped out the psu.

There is a way for you to test whether or not your power supply is working or not without it being connected to the motherboard itself. Here is a link for you to try out.

You'll want to look at the second reply.

This will le you tes your power supply for signs of life, ie fans, completely independant of other components.

The above post concerning testing a power supply WITHOUT A LOAD does not work on all supplies.

What this means is, your supply good be working, and fail this test.
