I reacently installed a PC CHIPS 810 board into a friends machine that used to have an amd k6-2/400 in it don't have model of board as it didn't have one on it. I ran regedit then deleted the floder in the registery called enum to remove all old hardware then once I got into windwos with the 810 I ran add new hardware once it had finnished restarted and gone back into windows I ran the 810 motherboard driver cd ver 8.12B it installed everthing but the on board sound will not work it is listed under device manager and it says that the device is installed and working properly but if I go into sound and multimedia properties under audio it says no playback device avalibal what can I do to get it to work?

Hi, Check in Bios and make sure onboard sound is enabled. I think it is listed as AC97.

In device manager under sound, video, and game controllers it says SiS7018 if you click on it it says this device is working properly. But under sounds and multimedia properties under audio where it says sound play back preferred device it has nothing listed just a blank space all I can select is game compatible device or voice modem wave #00 line even though it is installed under system properties. All multimedia conponents are installed under add/remove programes/windows setup

I also have the SiS7018 but under preferred playback device it lists Sis7018 wave. The only thing I can suggest is that you reinstall the SiS7018 driver. You can use the driver off your installation disk or find a better one here. http://radel.inet.nz/m810lmr.html

I tried reinstalling the driver but no joy.
this problem seems to happen to a lot of machines after you change the motherboard. everything insatlls and works apart from the sound it gets listed as working properly in device manager but under multimedia proprties it says no playback device avalibal. It's stange as creative sound chips seem to work ok when you change a motherboard over but SiS7018 or AC97 as they are also known never seem to work unless you format and reload windows. Surely there is a way aruond this problem or am I doomed to reloading windwos?
