Would anyone know how or where I could get help in trying to identify some cards/boards that I have accumulated. I'm not sure how to tell the quality of these. Even just a photo of a modem card or an ethernet card, sound card, video card, etc.
Is there a web site that I could use or something like that. I've tried to search using various serial #'s, but they seem to be the # of the component on the board itself. None of the cards have Manufacturer information or even what they are used for.
Anyone know how I could do this? Thanks, J.

Hi James
If you are talking about PCI cards that slot onto a motherboard, then the type of port on the card will tell you what they are...
Modem card will have one or two telelphone jacks and maybe a picture of a telelphone and a line socket next to each jack...or could be marked TEL and LINE
NIC card will have an ethernet socket plus a LED ( lights that glow )
Ethernet jack is similar to a telephone jack but slightly biggerSound card will have tiny round ports for microphone and speakers and may be colour-coded...pink, blue, green and black
Video card will have a 15 pin socket that connects to a monitor cable...maybe colour-coded in blue
Look on the cards for the biggest black IC chip...the number on that should be a manufacturer's code.
Also look for a FCC code stamped somewhere on the board...that is a unique number that can be checked on the web that will give you a manufacturer and modelGood luck

You should one of the following system information utility to extract details of all components in your PC. From there on you could use the info to search the net for latest drivers, etc.
