Just downloaded Diablo II through isohunt.com and played for about 5 min... My PC shut down on it's own and have not been able to start it up for a week... I'll unplug the power cable for a few hours to a few days, and try to turn it on with no luck. My power supply is an Orion HP385D, video card eVGA nvidia geForce 8800 GTX, CPU AMD Athlon X2 6000+ with 6 gb of ram on Vista Ultamite. When I press the power button the fans spin about an 8th of a rotation and then everything stops.... please, I need help, I miss my computer!!!!

Please give me other options than a new power supply... I just bought a new Phenom II that requires a new mobo and ram, so I can't afford both on those AND and new power supply...

Sounds like a PSU failure. I don't recognise that PSU brand but if the model number indicates the wattage your PSU may not be up to the task.

Were you overclocking either the CPU or GPU?

No I was not overclocking anything... It was all at stock lvls... the only thing that I could think would cause the failure is that my PC would always be powered on and it stopped going into standby mode after I installed AVG Virus scan, and quite maybe the PSU overheated and got fried (i hope not...).

Wishing the PSU is good won't make it so.

What are the specs for all the rails and the total wattage?

"My power supply is an Orion HP385D"

My guess is the correct model number is HP585D.

"Please give me other options than a new power supply"

There are no other options. Orion PSUs are junk. How much did you pay for it, $20-25? I don't understand the thought process...you spend all that money on high end components, then use an el cheapo PSU? The PSU is no place to be cutting corners, you're entire system depends on it. Decent quality PSU's sell for at least $50 but you should expect to pay more. If you're lucky, you didn't fry the motherboard or CPU...if you're unlucky, you'll be replacing a lot more than just the PSU. But hey, look at the valuable lesson you learned!

Here's a Corsair 650W unit for $70 after rebate:

Sorry about the typo, the PSU is the HP 585D. These are the specs that I found...

Model Name HP 585D
Temperature Range Operating 0°C~35°C, non-operating -40°C~70°C
Hold-up Time 16.6ms minimum at full load & normal input voltage
Humidity 5~95% RH
Power Good Signal On delay 100ms to 500ms, Off delay 1ms
Overload Protection 100~150% load
Over Voltage Protection +5V MAX 6.3V, +12V MAX 15.6V, +3.3V MAX 4.5V
In Rush Current 75A (PEAK) for 115Vac, 150A (PEAK) for 230Vac
Remote Sensing +3.3V
Cooling Fans Dual 80 mm DC Fan

Input Characteristics

Model

Voltage
Frequency
HP 585DR

90-130Vac or 180-264Vac

47 ~ 63 HZ

Max Power 585W

Sorry if that's all jumbled up, I copied it straight from a chart.

the symptons are identical to when my PSU failed.

but i also had one like this when i built a system and the cmos clear jumper was missing - it was not in the 'wrong' position it was just missing. but the chances of your cmos jumper falling off are not great but might be worth checking

The specs you posted are meaningless. There are no rail amperages. That is what matters.

It wouldn't matter anyway because even good PSUs fail. You have the symptoms.
