Could be many things and you need to go through a process of elimination. It sounds like a hardware issue so first step I would take is to carefully reseat all hardware cables, PCI cards, RAM, power leads. Do them one at a time and make sure you are properly grounded (Wrist strap) to avoid static shocks to your system.Clean out any dust carefully with hairdryer on cold setting and a soft brush. Next check CMOS battery. Replace it. If that doesn't help then you may have faulty power supply.
Do your fans spin when boot fails or only when you retry numerous times to get a successful boot? If still not fixed then RAM may be bad. If you have more than one stick try removing one at a time to test if you can boot. If RAM isn't the issue it may be VGA card(if you have one)
Post back after trying a few things and let us know a bit bore about your hardware setup. Good luck.

I have the same "dead boot" problem. On initial powerup HDD and power lights come on, as well as processor and power supply fans. But no beep signals and no drives are tested. Everything just sits static. I've found that if I just power up and leave it for 10 or 20 minutes then use the 5 second power down, it will boot up fine. From then on it will restart over and over, until it has cooled again with power off overnight. Win 98se, Aptiva with AMDK7. I'm in Wisconsin, so it seems it just needs to warm up :-) ... I tried taking out all cards to no avail. Next I'm going to replace CMOS battery, then power supply. Will post followup, but would also appreciate info on any other similar experiences.

Dam it i got the same problem buddy dead boot
yah ur rite if the pc cools its dead.Warming it up for 10-20 minutes will give some power to the lazy idiot.

Well what i do is-:
Keep it on for 10 mins or so..keep on switching the power button on and off..till the CD-ROM lights blink..coz when that blinks means that..the idiot finally woke up from a long slumber..however there is no beep signal so i restart the pc and then the beep signal comes and works fine..i am living the hottest country..with lots of head provided ($_-) but still no use!

Stick to this post lets see if we can find a common solution to this thing...btw.i called my hardware engineer to sort out things..Ill see what does he come up with and let you know and it would be kind of you to keep the input coming on your side too..coz i think its only two of us in this whole world with "Lazy PC's"
