Comment: I'm getting beeps when I hit the power switch. 7 beeps (long, short, long, short, pause, long short short). I tried looking up the POST codes ??? Anyway after turn the PC on and off about ten times (with monitor ON) it 'clicks' and the Compaq screen comes on and everything works A-o.k. (btw-Compaq Deskpro-PII-Win98) Any ideas?

Reply: (edit)The AGP video card is faulty. Reseat the card or replace it outright. This beep pertains to Compaq Deskpro systems That's what is says here: http://bioscentral.com/beepcodes/compaqbeep.htm

Reply: (edit)Thanks dinosar and ham30. I know it's long over due for an upgrade. I'll try reseating the video card. If all else fails it's a great excuse to do some shopping! :)
