I am looking at getting an Abit AV8 VIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard for my new system . My second home build . I am also looking at using Ballistix Tracer 512MB DDR PC4000 184-pin DIMM for my ram . {http://www.crucial.com/ballistix/ } My question here is . On the detailed specs for this motherboard it shows Memory Supported
DDR266 (PC2100)
DDR333 (PC2700)
DDR400 (PC3200)
{http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1047015&Tab=2&NoMapp=0 }

However this ram is DDR PC4000 . Will I have a problem running PC 4000 ram on this board .

What I'm supposed to say:

Check Abit's website for an official list of recommended and supported RAM. They should get very specific with brands.

What I'll tell you anyway:

It probably will work. Do keep in mind that PC4000 RAM for your system is totally useless unless you're gonna overclock at a front side bus speed higher than 215MHz (430MHz DDR). If you're not planning to overlock, save yourself a wad of money and get some PC3200 RAM of reputable quality. I recommend Mushkin and Corsair.

Other recommendations:

If you're going Athlon 64, the top performing chipsets are NForce 4's, or NForce 3's if you can't afford that. VIA chipsets do work fine though.

I don't think any board manufacturer's will list RAM support above PC3200. That's because PC3200 is currently the highest "official" standard recognized by JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council).

Make sure you run matching sticks in dual channel mode with your socket 939 A64. Balance your RAM's throughput with your CPU's bandwidth & you'll be fine.
