I took my freecom external hard drive to a local computer repair store as the first time I used it was with a mac at work and then it would not work with my pc.
The repair store asked if I would like them to partition the hard drive for use with mac and pc which sounded great so I agreed.
I have since successfully used the external hard drive on both mac and pc but recently after using the external hard drive on a brand new laptop and a communal pc at my university the hard drive has stopped being recognized.
When I plug it in I am told "the device can not be recognized" and an extra pop up which I think said something along the lines of software "malfunction"
I have now taken the hard drive back to the original repair store who asked me who partitioned the device as the mac side wasn't working.
I then told them that it was their store that did the work and they have since responded telling me that actually the problem is that the pc side is full of virus's and it has damaged the partition table so the data possibly may not be able to be recovered from my mac side.
I would like to know if it is a coincidental and fixable problem or if the repair store when partitioning the hard drive have broken it?
