Specs: Windows XP
Can I get a scanner designed to work with a printer's parallel connection to work (on XP) without a printer being connected? (I no longer have such a printer. My new one is a USB only without a parallel connection available to this old scanner.

Yes, providing you have the correct drivers for the scanner.

Thanks Stuart. How? I had this scanner working on XP some time back using a driver posted by someone in Brazil, as Genius no longer supports this scanner. However this was when I still had a parallel printer with the daisy chain connection. I still have this driver, but it may not work without this daisy chain set-up??? I still have the original scanner drivers on disc too but they never worked on XP, only ME, which I had at that time.
This scanner has great depth of field for scanning better 3D objects and newer scanners are most deficient in this regard, so that's why I'd love that it would still be usable.

I do not require that a printer be directly usable with this scanner by the way.

Have you tried it?

Suck it and see is often the only way to find out things where computers are concerned. At worse it wont work so you just un-install the driver.

There is no reason why it should not work without a printer being daisy chained.

There are PCI cards with parallel ports available.
