Panasonic kx-p2123 - remove color

I have just purchased a Panasonic kx-p2123. It came with an installed Color Kit. Since this is to be used primarily for draft printing, it would make sense to remove the color kit and use the standard black ribbon. Has anyone ever done this and how difficult is it. There is a booklet which tells how, but it is a bit confusing. Any help greatly appreciated.
