Hi. I have an old Packard Bell Legend 836CDT computer. I am upgrading this computer and ran into a bit of a problem with installing a new video card. (This post was posted early today:

http://www.computing.net/hardware/wwwboard/forum/12641.html

Anyway, I ran into another problem. Whenever I boot the computer, the sometimes the POST tests stop after detecting the hard drive (the computer just hangs). Other times the POST will give me a CMOS error, ask to if I want to contiune and if I do, says there is no OS. Earlier today, I had upgraded the BIOS and I am thinking that this is the problem. I have tried to recover the BIOS but this does not work. I can not get back to the pervious verison. I have tried reflashing it but this has yeilded no luck. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

I am looking at www.badflash.com in an attempt to fix the problem but need to know one thing before I can request another BIOS chip; Does anyone know who the manufacture was of a Packard Bell Legend 836CDT motherboard? All I can find is something about a Packard Bell 600 Motherboard.

Thanks for any help.

Ahhh yes....Packard Bell.....a self-servicer's enemy.

I service computers for a living and when I see a Packard Bell that needs some attention, my body quivers. How long have you had the 400 MHz CPU in it? Has it been doing this since the CPU was installed?
Packard Bells dont like upgrades.

I have had the processor in for a while.

After playing around with the computer early this morning, I got it to work. I just kept reseting the system configuration in the BIOS and finally it started to work.

Now, my only problem is the getting the video card to work. Do you have any ideas what could be wrong. I am trying to add a Pine SIS 305 32MB PCI card. Whenever I install it into the computer, and turn it on, I get a blank screen and the computer hangs?

Thanks.

your computer may not support an add in video card. Does it have onboard video? or are you replacing a card
