I am trying to figure out how to upgrade my bios, but the asus manual is zero help. I cant seem to get into dos with windows XP and therefore, i can't upgrade the bios. Can someone tell me how to do this with a recent Asus motherboard and XP?

There is no DOS in XP, only DOS emulation and that will not work for you for this purpose. One of the first things we need to know is does your system have a floppy drive. If so, there are a number of places on the Internet where you can download a DOS-based boot floppy image. The one I use is www.bootdisk.com Then (again if you have a floppy drive) copy the BIOS-loader program and the new BIOS file to a second floppy. Boot with the boot floppy, switch to the second and run the loader program.
An alternative to the floppy would be CD. Then you need a CD burner and it gets more complicated.

**You need a floppy drive for this**
I have the same motherboard as you and I think the manual explains it quite well :P. Anyway go to here
http://www.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=P4P800&Type=All
Download Afudos BIOS update tool V2.11 and P4P800 BIOS V1018 and extract them from the zip file to somewhere on your hard drive. Create a bootable floppy and copy the extracted files to your floppy and then restart your computer. In dos type afudos /iP4P81018.rom and press enter. Then don't touch your computer until its finished and pray there isn't a power failure ;).
Asus P4P800
P4 2.4c
Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu HSF
ATI Radeon 9800 pro
1 GB OCZ pc 3500 ram
Sound Blaster audigy LS

No need to download anything to create a bootable floppy with Windows XP
Go to Windows Explorer, right click Drive A. Select format and click "Create MS-DOS Boot disk". Copy your BIOS files to this floppy, there will be enough room.
Boot from this floppy and away you go.

Hi,
You do not need a floppy to update the BIOS on this motherboard. You can use Asus Live Update for this purpose.
Just get the latest version of their live update on the downloads page at asus.com.
I have used this method since running my board and have not had a problem.

I am such a noob, i completely forgot to make the disk bootable....Thank you guys for all of the tips and information. I really appreciate it. Everything is in working order now.
