I just got a new E6600 core 2 duo CPU to install on my ECS P4M800PRO-M v 2.0 MB and it is acting VERY weird.
1st step is I tried to update the bios to the latest version 070830 off their website. For some reason it vices me an error in both dos and windows when I try to flash...but their instructions say to bypass the checksum id....I do that and it appears to work, but who knows.
Next I install the processor. It boots a little slow into the bios, but it goes, I select optimum settings and reboot. The system just sits there for between 10 and 15 min then will finally boot into Windows. The only way I can get it to boot "normally" is to clear the CMOS and then it will bott to bios, but once I exit bios and it reboots, it goes to the 10-15 min to boot again.
Bios does report the CPU as an E6600, but for some reason it reports my memory as running at 400 MhZ and not the 533 it's supposed to be.
As soon as I put my old P4 3.0 GhZ back in it works perfectly.
Any ideas?

Did you check the Board for compatibility with E6600 core 2 duo CPU?
Does not appear to be a match.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

as I noted above, it's v 2.0. It's a match. You linked the v1.0 board.
In addition, while searching for more info, it appears that some retailers even bundled the e6600 plus the P4M800PRO-M v2.0 with that processor as a package deal.
Also, if it's not a match, it should have never booted and definately not report the correct processor on the few occassions that it did.

To start with, it's not a very good board. Not because it's made by ECS, but because it's based on a crappy VIA chipset. That fact that you had problems flashing the BIOS is not good. I recommend performing the flash from DOS using a bootable floppy. Flashing from Windows is risky. The instructions mention the possibility of a BIOS protection jumper...did you check your board (or manual) to see if there is one?

it's definately tyhe processor. I just went out and purchased an Asus MB with different chipset, etc, etc and it's doing pretty much the same thing.
It will boot up fine the first time, then after I set the bios and reboot.....nothing.
Guess it's RMA time.

I fiddled with the bios a bit on the asus MB and actually got XP installed. But now it's back to having trouble booting into bios and when it finally does (several reboot attempts) it will hang during windows loading. It's got to be the processor. I can't believe 2 motherboards would have similar problems with completely different chipsets. And I've never seen a bios report the correct chip, then only work some of the time.
