Was looking around the other day and came across this:

http://www.powerleap.com/PL-iP3T.jsp

As i have 2 systems that *may* benefit from this I was wondering if anyone had tried these upgrades out, It looks like a similar proposition to the old pentium overdrive chips for the old 486`s.

1`st system is a p3 650 with 512mb ram
2`nd system is a p3 866 with 256mb ram

Would i really see any noticeable increase in performance if i went for the P4 upgrade as opposed to the celeron upgrade. Bear in mind that here in the uk the p4 options is around £170 ($272) and the celeron is £65 ($104) andf for the p4 price i could probably get a decent 2nd hand p4 system anyway . . . .
Main use of the 2 systems i have is video processing/converting and for playing a few games such as doom 3 (yes it runs on my 866, a bit slow and jerky but just about playable)

I guess the bottom line is are these upgrades worth the cost?

I wouldn't think so. What the CPU upgrade will increase will be slowed down by the older type memory. Better to just get a P4 motherboard and memory to go with it.

You're most likely to notice a decrease in your back balance. For that $100+ upgrade, which may work, you would notice some increase, but unless you have a need for it, it would probably make a better downpayment on a new system.
