P3: 450 vs. 500: why the $ jump?

I see used Compaq Deskpros, P3 500 mhz, priced at 40% more than the same machine and configuration, but at 450 mhz, same company. Was there some technological break at the 500mhz level, which would account for this? I've seen it in more than one catalogue, and the 50mhz difference is not nearly so expensive anywhere else in P3s
as it is at the 450 vs. 500 break. Maybe it's not a technical thing... just a market thing..

Its a market thing... people say hmmm 50mhz more is worth is so people try to make them get the 50mhz more...50mhz more is nothing really...

just get the less expensive one, 50 mhz aint' worth it

Get the 450 and with some of the $$ difference buy more RAM for it. Aim for 256 Megs or more in total. For a pc like that the best "bang for the buck" upgrade is more memory.
