Hey all, I messed up huge. And I am here to beg for help as quickly as possible.
Here is my situation:
I wrote up a four page Word 2003 document and saved it on my laptop, then backed it up onto a 250MB Zip disk. Then I mistakenly deleted everything in the document and saved it over what was on my laptop. And of course, being the [dangerously] conscientious data backup guy that I am, I also saved it to my Zip disk, overwriting the original. I overwrote it by only going by the naming scheme I was using for the file instead of opening up each version (old and new) and making sure that I wasn’t overwriting good with bad.Well, overwriting good with bad is exactly what I obviously did today. And of course, I really need to have this document done for a meeting tomorrow.
So my question is to you: is it possible to recover the original document that may still be preserved somehow on the Zip disk? I have read somewhere (but don’t know where) that there are ways to recover overwritten files back to their original form, but HOW???
Please help, and know that every bit of assistance is verrrrrry well appreciated in this time of crisis.
Also, since I am not sure which forum to post this in, I will put it in a few different ones, and I apologize for putting it in any wrong one in doing so. Yes, it is that important.

Wow, it’s a long shot (because you overwrote it!) but PC inspector's File Recovery might be able to recover it. It’s a pretty good program and is completely free.

Symbios Y!

Thanks symbios! it didn't work as I really don't believe you can (as you noted) revert back to a document after it has been saved over, but I'll live through it anyway. tomorrow is another day. life goes on.
thanks again. neat program by the way.
