Specs: Windows 7
just started to overheat my Asus - pulled the battery at times. The system closes without warning when it happens. It seems to happen more or faster when the battery is in although on the plug.

How old is the battery?

Laptop batteries only last so long. Once they are too far gone they won't hold a charge and trying may make them overheat.

Is the battery itself hot when you experience this problem?

Thanks - no the battery is not hot just the undercarriage and the drive makes a noise I never heard in the past. Could the drive be damaged or is it the processor.? Takes about one hour to over heat or 2. What else can I check?

Are you setting the unit on a hard, flat surface when in use?

Get a can of compressed air from the office supply and blow out the grills on the bottom.
