Hello all, thanx for taking the time to read this.

I recieved a computer, and am hoping to take my 2 hard drives and sound card from my old system, while adding a new video card.

Ive done this all before, just not all at once, and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction of what to do in what order.

MoBo: Asus A8V-e Deluxe
Ram: 2 Gb sd
Pwr: 500W

Thanx in advance.

The second harddrive will be for storage?
I assume the curent sound is intgrated?

First of all, verify all the cards are compatible. Locate the latest drivers for the hardware. Install the second harddrive and verify all is well. You may need to take ownership of the files on that drive. See the link at the bottom to learn how.

Download and apply the latest Service pack and updates for WinXP. Same for the version of DX required for your graphics card.

Uninstall the graphics driver. Shutdown the computer and install the graphics card. Be sure to take proper anti-static precautions.
Reboot and immediately enter the BIOS screens (del). Change the first video device to the proper one (not integrated)if necessary. Disable onboard sound. Save and exit. When Windows attempts to install the video card tap esc and cancel any install of video card. Then install the drivers for the video. Reboot and verify the video is OK. If so, shutdown and install the sound card, following the same method as the video. Install the sound card in a slot away from the graphics card.
