Green means that it is ready to display an image and orange means it is in standby mode.

Are you expecting something else?

After attaching it to the video card can you then push the button on the front of the monitor to wake it up or power up the PC to see if it displays an image after coming out of standby mode?

So, is formatting the one hard drive your current goal?

I had a similar problem and found that a couple of the motherboard capacitors were shot. Sometimes it would boot up and for no apparent reason it would just shut down. Upon restarting I would experience the exact same symptoms you have described.

The capacitors, on the motherboard, have an "X" etched into their tops. If that X is bulging upward or the base of the capacitor is bulged or crap is oozing out of the bottom of it then...

Otherwise, why can you not format or fdsik the one that does boot up? What is stopping you from performing the task?

Regards,
Bryan

Okay...I got one of my hard drives formatted and windows 98 on it. Connected it to pc...would not even power up the hard drive. So I figured I would put the old Gateway motherboard in it. Now it powers up everything but I have to video signal going to the monitor. I have an orange light in front of the monitor. I am lost at this point and don't know which way to turn. Thanks for any input.
