So,the ram passed memtest,I put the stick back in the computer worked fine. Gave computer back to friend.It's bieng working fine for a few days untill now,back to 1 long beep on bootup.???
Can a virus/trojan/worm cause this?I know that they have only the xp firewall enabled.No virus package,no 3rd party firewall,nothing.

Since your motherboard is made by MSI (it’s a 6399 I think) it should have an Award bios. With Award, 1 long beep means either a memory problem or your motherboard is bad.
Since the stick worked fine in your other comp, I’d say there’s something wrong with either the board or the memory slot. Did you try it in a different slot?
