I have a GX280 Optiplex. When I power on the fan goes into hyperdrive and sounds as though it might explode - although it doesn't. I have no signal to the monitor (onboard video card). HELP!!!

Motherboard is probably bad. If it is under warranty, call Dell tech support to have motherboard replaced. If not, check for swollen capacitors on the motherboard. For details, go to www.thecapking.com This is a very popular problem with the Dell GX270s and GX280s. I have fixed many of them. I have also heard of the heat sensor on the fan going bad, but I haven't witnessed this for myself. If none of that fixes it, then you might just be out of luck and have a dead motherboard.
