Optical Drive Stopped detecting CDs

I had this drive for about a week, it worked fine until my computer died so i had to RMA my mobo and my ram and my hardrive. Now that everything is all back together my Optical drive wont detect certain CDs. Like for example; my motherboard drivers CD, and Microsoft Word 2007. Its a Samsung Optical DVD Writer (SH-S223F)

If all the mentioned parts were defective about the only way they could be damaged is by an electrical surge or a bad PSU. Are you sure the optical drive didn't also get damaged?
Is the drive identified in the start up screens by name and model?
If you installed WinXP using that drive I assume it does work when you boot to it?

Whatever ruined all the other components, has more than likely hit the DVD drive as well. They are not that expensive to replace, as to tolerate them playing up. Maybe you can borrow one to check.
