Hi,

I bought a own-brand laptop from a shop called Novatech in portsmouth,ENgland I have had endless problems with it and wondered if these are typical of this company? I moved abroad 3 months after buying it so I cant just take it back (and besides the guarentee is probably run out now). First the floppy stopped working - at boot I am told to fix this in the bios settings, but the bios has no option to fix this. In the last few days the battery has completely stopped working, and the cd player doesnt play cd's properly (which is a massive problem because I now have no way to use boot disks at all) - it sounds like it tries to spin the disk and then gives up eventually. I tried taking the floppy drive out and checking connections and they are all fine. I have no idea why so many things can fail on a laptop when it is only just 18 months old. I do use it a lot for work (most days 8 hours plus), but a laptop should be able to handle actually being used for work surely?

If anyone knows things to try to find the problem with my battery and cd/floppy I would be grateful for your help. Also if people have had similar experiences with this company (google doesnt find any hate sites or anything) please tell. I shant ever buy from them again, but maybe I have just been unlucky.

I have no experience with this company, but my brother had similar problems with a Jewel emmerald (almost the same as safier). after 4 months, the Li-ion-battery died, and guess what, there were only 3 months waranty on it. Now, a week ago, his cd-rw could't write cd's anymore, even after a reinstall of windows. Waranty ends at september 6th, so that's just in time...

I guess some of these notebooks use hardware that is a bit too sensitve for shocks, which can't be avoided somethimes, and thus the components fail one by one...

Are you using the notebook in a dusty place? like next to a big road with heavy traffic or something. this might also be causing the problems with the cd-player that you mention.

Johan
