OS: Win 2000/linux ?
CPU/Ram: 756 mb
Comment:

My dual operating system conked and we had to change the motherboard. The hard drives were fine since we connected it to an other computer and checked it.

This computer is with hard drive capacity of 80 Gb (two drives as 20 and 60 gb).
I tried installing windows 2000. Installation went fine. After two hours i started the system again and the system failed to start with the message "Searching for boot record from IDE"

So i installed Red hat linux and it went thru fine after many tries in reformatting the hard drive. I was able to shut down , create accounts, etc.But after few hours again the same problem of "Searching for boot record from IDE".

Now if i try to do reinstallation again it says it is not able to format the hard drive.

Is this a bios problem or a hard drive problem ?
What's the solution to fix it ?

check the connections and also the jumper switches to be sure they are set right, and it may still be your mb or a bigger problem, psu, but check the connections and jumpers first
