What would be the best way to use your main desktop computer remotely while in the house and not always having to sit in front of the ol' desktop in the office cave; besides running a cat5 through the house, are there some options that aren't potential security risks?
Thanks.

Not sure what you mean? If you are talking from another building like your office then you can get a VPN Router and install the VPN client on the remote computer. This will open an encrypted tunnel to your computer. Then, you can install Real VNC on your computer and remote to it through the tunnel.

A cheap and somewhat secure solution is LogMeIn...

They use 256bit encryption but it is a 3 tier VPN which not as secure as a 2 tier preshared keys but then you don't have to buy a VPN router either and it is much easier to setup.

There is also GoToMyPC, GoToMeeting and many more out there, but I like LogMeIn and use it on my own computers.

Now if you are talking from one room to the other in your house then security is not an issue and simple remote desktop will work...
