If you didn't know, Onstream have gone bankrupt, and my drive has just developed a problem.

Whenever I insert a tape, it reads it for about 30 seconds and ejects it. I have tried several tapes, and the drive has worked perfectly for 2 years.

I can't get in-touch with OnStream because the company has closed and I don't know where to turn.

Can anyone help, or know somewhere I can get the drive repaired?

Thanks

I've never seen that device but ... You might want to look into cleaning the read/write head(s). If it hasn't been cleaned in three years, it could very well need it. Long Q tips and cleaning solvent used on audio components might do the job.

I used to work for Onstream's tech support department as the head technical supervisor. Here is what I'd tell you to do. 1st, remove the left rear screw from the drive, as this can push up against the loading motor, causing the drive to eject the tape. Then stop windows from loading by hitting F8 when it gives the Starting windows message, and try to insert a tape. If it kicks out with multiple tapes in that configuration, then the drive is defective. Since it takes 30 sec, it's having a problem reading the header on the tape, so it could be a read head problem, but that was a VERY uncommon issue with these drives. They are really simple in there and unless you are operating a particularly dusty environment, you shouldn't have a problem where you'd need to clean the drive.

Hope that helps

I've got two OnStream drives that have become non-funtional since the demise of OnStream in May. Both are less than 6 months old too!

Does anyone know if anyone know if the company's assets have been sold to another group who might provide service/sales of these drives down the road?

We've got a fairly significant investment in this tape medium and I'd hate to have to start switching to another format...
