Only 1 stick of RAM detects

Hewlett-packard Pavilion dv4-2045dx note...

Specs: Windows 7, amd a8-5600k/16gb ram 2x8gb
FM2-A75MA-E35 doesnt detect the second stick of RAM. I have tested both sticks of RAM in the system and either stick works in the memory slot closer to the cpu. however, if the second stick is added, sometimes the system will boot and just not detect it and other times the system will power on but not boot. As stated, I have checked both sticks of ram individually in the lefthand slot. When booted with one stick at a time it will always boot, with either stick no problem. The problems only arise when the second stick is added. Could this board potentially have a bad slot?

Yes it could have a bad slot. Have you tested it by using one stick in the possibly-bad slot while leaving the obviously-good slot empty?

Yoiu need to make sure too that the ram is the correct type and capacity for the motherboard.

It sounds like a bad slot. What is the history of the board? Installing RAM backward or the wrong type can ruin a slot or even more.

Possible that the RAM is not compatible. Check the list linked below. Do you have 1.5V RAM or something else?

Try clearing the CMOS and immediately enter the BIOS to reset values as needed.

Its PC3 12800 DDR3 1600Mhz RAM. It should be compatible.

"Its PC3 12800 DDR3 1600Mhz RAM"

What brand & at what voltage? Are you manually configuring the RAM settings in the BIOS or are they on AUTO?

You might wanna consider a BIOS update, a new one was just released.
