Go to the "Users" icon in the Control Panel and set a password for your user account.

The best password that will also lock down your computer is set in BIOS. Go in there and set it in place but first etch the password permanently in your head so you will never forget it.

Password in BIOS can be resetted by jumper and therefore it's not really secure.

You could leave the computer open for other people to use, but get a program to hide a directory for any files you don't want others to see or use.

You could also permanently attach the power cord to the computer and to the wall socket. Then put a service disconnect switch in line with the the socket, and use a padlock to secure the switch in the on/off position. Then you will have complete control over when your computer can be used.
