Right click My Computer and select Properties. I'm not sure about Windows 2000, but look for Device Manager. Look at Sound and video controllers. See if there are any yellow caution signs in there. Since you reformatted you need to install the chipset drivers for your Motherboard for the sound and other devices. Do you have a cd that came with the machine. Look for a cd that says chipset drivers. If you have it, pop it into the tray and install the drivers. If you don't have one, post back with the make and model # of your motherboard.

This web page has the drivers for your board. Download them and save them to a folder that you either create or an existing folder, but remember where you saved them. After the download, open the folder and if they are exe. files, just click them to install them. If they're not exe. files, go to device manager again and right click the devices with a yellow question mark and click update driver. At that point, direct the installation to the folder where you have the drivers saved. Good Luck.
