Hi All, Had an older gateway computer(1999) and the hard drive finally gave out on it(10gb ibm deskstar) and wanted to get it working for my parents. Added new hd and now all of gateways crap is now back and i don't know how it returned. i used the full install disk for windows 98se and used none of the disks from gateway. is there something in the mobo that adds these and if so is there someway to bypass this feature?? I have nothing but problems with it in the past and would really like to have the system free of this junk.
Thanks Mike

Knowing WHAT junk you are talking about would be most helpful...........

You used the gateway restore disk, right?

That is what placed all the junk on your pc. You need to go through and uninstall / delete all the "junk" again.

Even if you did not run restore, and just loaded windows from the gateway disk, it would have loaded all the other garbage (many mfrs ship custom versions of windows, which may or may not include all features).

It added programs like...links to their site, gateways self-help program, gateways go-back program(which I had nothing but trouble with), it even labeled my new drive...I was really looking forward to a system free of all these extras. I hope this help, Mike

I used a boot disk from bootdisk.com but I did use the copy of windows that came with the computer.
