Currently I have a Dell Optiplex with 200mhz and 96 mb of RAM, I know that it is old but it does what I want. Right now it has a socket 7, where the CPU is sitting, it is an Intel Pentium MMX. Here is my question what is the latest CPU that supports a socket 7?The Service Tag is 9KXYZ.

You are probably going to have to get a new PC if you want to upgrade. Your PC actually may be faster if you reduce your memory to 64 Meg due to the cache limitations of most Socket 7 chipsets. Good luck.

If you put in either a Gigabyte 5AGAA, an FIC va-503+ or a Soyo-5EHM motherboard you will be able to fit an AMD K6-2 550mhz cpu and overclock it above 600mhz if you want too. that makes your current computer about 10 times bigger than it is and it can comfortably support windows xp and a dvdrom without any troubles at all. It leaves you with an opportunity to apply massive amounts of ram at a later date and can read a 40gb hdd and possibly more. Every other part of your current machine can be left as is but you get the choice of using AGP graphics too. either of these motherboards can be bought for about $32.00US on ebay and a new AMD K6-2 533mhz or 550mhz cpu can be got for $20.00US in many places.
