Comment: I just bought a new faster PC and want to move the existing programs. To get things going I tried to install in the new PC The Epson Perfection 1670 scanner and The printer Deskjet HP6900 using the original installation disks. The XP pro gripes that it can't find the drivers on the disks. So I can't install on the new machine neither printer nor scanner. I reconnected their cables to the old PC and they both respond perfectly. Puzzled Fred Is there some installation sequence that I'm overlooking? Bye and thanks

Reply: (edit)You need to install the hardware using the disks that originally came with them. There is more to a scanner than just the basic drivers. The same goes for the printer. If the units are USB interface then you need to install the software first and then connect the unit. Unplug both units and then start the CD for one or the other. I would recommend doing the scanner first. If the disk won't autostart then use the explore option when right clicking the drive icon in My Computer. Then find a file like setup.exe or install.exe. Doubleclick that and follow the prompts.

Reply: (edit)Thanks a million. Using the disk before plugging in the USB cable worked like a charm for the Epson scanner. The printer is now working as well but getting there was more complicated because besides the bare bones printer installation the CD contains a lot of photo processing "goodies" and therein lurked something that XP didn't want to swallow. Fortunately pressing the HP site update button, gave rise to a large set of updates which concluded with new additions to the desktop of said goodies and the printer proclaiming that it was installed and print a test page. So thanks again. Bye Fred
