Comment:

I have a Gateway E-1400 Running Windows 98 SE and I need a display driver so I can set my color resolution higher than 16 colors(4-bit). I have tried Gateway.com, but my computer is so old that it has been removed completley from the site. What I want to know is where I can find the display Driver I need. I am using DSL so I can't use a driver scanning program. Thanks.

This should be the download page for that model:

http://support.gateway.com/support/...

and download 7510797.exe

Gateway has messed with what once was an excellent support site. But you still may be able to use the serial number that appears on a sticker on your PC to locate drivers.. Go here:

http://support.gateway.com/support/...

and enter it. The E-1400 series may have had several different motherboard models in it, but all probably had the same Intel video chipset. Anyway, if that does take you to the support page, the downloads will probably be the same as I linked to above, but you can check to make sure.

From a quick google search I found the manual for the Gateway E-1400 that says it uses the intel 810 chipset, drivers for the 810's built in grapics are here .

Of course the mainboard could have been changed or it could have a dedicated graphics card installed......
