old 386 laptop

CPU/Ram: 386 6 mb ram

everytime i power my compaq presario up the floppy disk drive make vibrating noises all the time and it comes up disk controller error how do i stop this

Most likely the hard drive is faulty. I would boot the machine from a bootable floppy which you can download from this LINK.

If it boots successfully, run scandisk which will tell you the shape your hardrdive is in.

the floppy disk is faluty it wont boot from the floppy the floppy drive is making vibrating noises all the time and it comes up disk controller error

If the floppy drive controller has failed, you will need to replace the drive. If the laptop is worth the expense that is.

You might be able to work around this by changing the boot order in bios to not include the floppy drive. Also look for a setting called something like 'floppy seek on bootup' and disable this.

Why do people insist on the most destructive methods of diagnostics?

You may be able to get dos and windows back onto your drive by temporarily installing it (with an adaptor) into a desktop machine.
