Hey everyone,

Im posting this in general hardware because I don't know if it would be an OS problem and I'll tell you why..

Occasionally when I boot up the computer, whether I boot from my XP hard drive or my Linux (fedora 9) hard drive, the computer will boot up but I will get a blank screen, the system will be at the point where it should show the login screen (for either OS) but it will just be blank, and thats where I restart the computer and its fine again.

I dont know if its something I should be worried about but im looking for suspects before something goes horribly wrong. Should I run memtest 86+ for a day or so?

Im not trying to float my boat but when I built this computer I made sure it had quality parts (especially the power supply).

Another thing to suspect is the overclock, I have an E2160 chip which easily overclocks to 3Ghz and thats what I did exactly, also the ram timings maybe have been set a TINY bit different because I have some Crucial Ballistix, I believe.., and it runs at a little better timing than what the bios sets it to originally.

So either the memory or overclock that I can think of, I also think it happens mostly on a cold boot, any ideas?

Appreciate it

In addition to the timings, at what speed do you have the RAM running ? Exactly what power supply do you have ?

The ram is at 4-4-4-12 if I am correct. Though I really do not suspect the cpu or ram of being the culprit, I have a feeling its something else but I do not know what to suspect. Powersupply is a 500W SilverStone PS. I may have more details in my signature (not sure)

Anyway I'll try starting some ram testing tonight. Thanks guys

What are the clock speeds of the cpu and RAM ? You said that you overclocked, so you should be able to determine those.
"Powersupply is a 500W SilverStone PS. I may have more details in my signature". You don't have more details there.

RAM 4-4-4-12
CPU is the e2160 going from 1.8ghz to 3.0Ghz which sounds extreme but looking up the cpu you will see that the chip is an easy overclocker up to this point with original cooling/heatsink/fan.

Here are some details on the power supply/ratings/etc
