Hello,
The past few days I've been trying to decide which
video card to get. I have the money, and obviously a
great computer for them to go into, but whats better,
an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB for $449 or an
nVidia GeForce FX 5900 Ultra 256MB for $495? I am
trying to spend a little less because I just upped my
memory to 1GB and bought 5.1 speakers.

Thanks!

Geforce is more overclocable and faster than the 9800 pro. But the 9800 will give you crystal clear graphics.

It will but if u are like a obession to graphics then ati is better.
If you take the graphics of both cards, the 9800 pro will have better graphics

Yup, ATI has the better image quality, cheaper, and uses less power, which is a good feature if you've got a smaller (300W) power supply.

The 9700pro with 128mb is the best deal among the top-end

Geforce FX 5900 has the only chipset that DOOM 3 has been completely written around. From what I read, DOOM 3 is to be the next QUAKE 3 and the FX 5900 will support EVERYTHING the game has to offer. So, maybe ID software will always turn to FX chipset first, and then match up the ATI afterwards. In which case, my purchase leans towards the FX cards.

well they both are about the same, really. with performance tests and everything either has a slight edge in certain areas, nvid being general performance, and ati being quality graphics. when i tested them on my comp i didn't see much difference (i decided to return both because the difference from what i already have is not worth 500 bucks). i am an nvid fan boy myself so i tend to say nvid, but if you want to go for the cheaper one it is obviously ati. but either way you will be more than happy with either choice.
