Umm can somebody tell me why it seems like ATI's unified shaders suck so bad?

my 2600XT has 120 shaders but an 8600GTS can beat it with only 32 shaders!

I do realize the 2600 only has 4 ROPs but still , then wouldn't the 2900XT beat the 8800GTX because the rops have been increased?

I'm a little stumped as to why nvidias shaders seem to be so much better.

Nvidia's shaders are clocked much higher than the core, whereas ATI's shaders = core clock speed.

Radeon 9700 Pro
2 x GigE
