Hi guys, I just replaced an N-Vidia cooling fan that was jammed.
The new one does not work too.
My question is: should the cooling fan of an N-Vidia FX5200 be working all of the time or does it turn on only if the temperature is too high?

I also noticed that the red and black supply wires of the old (original) colling fan and the new (not made by N-Vidia) fan are swapped. i mean, the new fan has its red wire on the place of the old fan's black wire.
??!

Help, please.
Thanks!

If the fan has only two wires, reversing them would make the fan spin in reverse.
The 3rd wire (if you have one) is for fan RPM (revolutions per minute). Try switching the red and black, if it still doesn't work, the card is no good.
If you do switch the wires, you might not be able to return the fan for a refund.

i do not agree the fan would go backwards. that is what i would have thought from the general rules of electric motors but it does not seem to apply to these fans. if the wires are correct way round it will work, if reversed the fan just does not work - that is from my experience of replacing graphics card fans. they often need the wires swapping round, i usually do that by trimmming the plug with a sharp knife so it can be forced in the other way round.
and , yes, the fan would normally run all of the time, not just when hot

So I guess, I have a case of swapped wires?
It is a two-wires type of fan.
I too thought that the fan must spin regardless of their positioning but seems that I was wrong.
I will try to swap them.

It worked.
I swapped the place of the cables and soldered them on the opposite side.
The fan started spinning. It is working fine for now, let's hope that it will survive.

Those cheap Chinese manufacturers have misplaced the wires. :(
